Our Mission in
Canada
Walking with Indigenous communities through healing, reconciliation, and the hope of the Gospel.
The Francis Institute's mission in northern Saskatchewan is rooted in a ministry of healing and reconciliation among Indigenous communities. In a region still carrying the wounds of historical trauma of the residential school system, our missionaries seek to share Christ's love through faithful presence, humble service, and authentic relationships.
Working alongside the local Church and Indigenous communities, we proclaim and demonstrate the Gospel by building relationships and healing ministry while honoring the dignity, traditions, and rich cultural heritage of the Cree, Dene and Metis peoples we are privileged to serve.
Mission Life in Canada
While every Francis Institute mission shares the same four pillars, each mission expresses them according to the unique needs of the local community.
-

PROCLAIMING THE GOSPEL
The Gospel is proclaimed through personal witness, prayer, catechesis, and conversations that invite others to encounter the healing love of Jesus Christ. By listening first and walking alongside those we serve, we strive to share the Good News with humility, respect, and compassion.
-

MAKING DISCIPLES
Our missionaries accompany individuals, families, and young people as they grow in faith and discover their God-given dignity. Through friendship, prayer, and ongoing formation, we seek to raise up missionary disciples who will strengthen their own communities for generations to come.
-

BUILDING COMMUNITY
Healing begins with relationships. Through faithful presence, listening, hospitality, and collaboration with local parish communities, we seek to rebuild trust and foster places where faith, hope, and reconciliation can flourish.
-

SERVING THE POOR
Following Christ's example, we respond to both the spiritual and human needs of those we encounter. Whether offering a listening ear, supporting families, accompanying those carrying deep wounds, or simply being faithfully present, we desire to make Christ's love visible through everyday acts of charity.

Louis and Jenn Gardiner began discerning a call to missionary service in 2019. After years of prayer, formation, and preparation, they now serve in northern Saskatchewan while raising their four daughters. Their family life is itself a witness to the stability, hope, and love they seek to share with the communities they serve.
