Our Mission in
Costa Rica
A new home for mission in the heart of Central America.
This mission post will be starting in January 2027.
The mission in Costa Rica will not only become a place of active evangelization to the local communities, but a place for missionary formation as well. Missionaries from North, Central, and South America will come for a one-year formation program centered on prayer, community, evangelization, and service to the poor.
Costa Rica offers the stability, safety, and bilingual accessibility needed to form missionaries who can return home with greater maturity, humility, and missionary zeal. Its peaceful society and cultural openness make it an ideal setting for prayer, community life, and missionary training and formation.
Mission Life in Costa Rica
While every Francis Institute mission shares the same charism, the Costa Rica Mission Post is uniquely designed to prepare missionaries for service across North, Central, and South America.
-

PROCLAIMING THE GOSPEL
Missionaries will proclaim the Gospel through parish outreach, retreats, home visits, public witness, and evangelization among expats and local communities.
-

MAKING DISCIPLES
Missionaries will walk alongside individuals, children, and families through catechesis, sacramental preparation classes, and Bible studies. They will also build relationships in the ordinary forms of daily life - through a soccer ministry and home visits to the poor - where trust is built and faith takes root.
-
BUILDING COMMUNITY
Living together in a missionary community, participants will grow in fraternity, accountability, simplicity, hospitality, and joyful service.
-

SERVING THE POOR
Service begins by recognizing the dignity of every person. Whether through generous hospitality, responding to practical needs of the poor as they arise, or simply listening and praying with those who are suffering, the missionaries seek to make Christ's love visible in everyday life.
Missionary Formation & Training Program
The Costa Rica mission will host a full-year formation program designed to shape missionaries who are mature in prayer, rooted in community, and prepared to enter humbly into the life of the people they serve.
Formation includes:
Daily prayer and sacramental life
Community living and shared mission
Catechetical training
Evangelization and preaching
Service to the poor
Cultural immersion
Leadership development
Missionary discipleship training
This program shapes missionaries as a whole person - spiritually, personally, pastorally. They return home with deeper maturity, a stronger Catholic identity, and renewed missionary zeal.
{sync=/missionary-profiles/category/Costa Rica}Meet Our Missionaries
Our missionaries serve in close collaboration with local clergy, religious, lay leaders, and parish communities. Together, they witness to Christ through humble service, faithful accompaniment, and relationships rooted in trust, compassion, and hope. Missionaries in Costa Rica will be formed to serve not only in Costa Rica, but throughout the Americas, bringing the fruits of prayer, study, and community life back to their home countries and future mission fields.
