Paolo Sangama Tello

Full-Time Missionary

Paolo was born and raised in Picota, Peru. At just eight years old, his parents separated, and for many years, he lived without any knowledge of God. That changed in 2013 when a friend invited him to go to Mass with him. That was Paolo’s first time going to Mass and felt out of place, unsure of what was happening. Yet something stirred within him, and he kept going. That same year, Paolo was baptized and received his First Holy Communion and Confirmation.  He also started serving as an altar server.  This marked the beginning of a personal relationship with Christ.

As his faith deepened, Paolo became more active in the parish, serving as a catechist and participating in youth ministry for several years. But in 2020, when the church closed for months because of the Covid lockdown, he began to neglect his faith. He didn’t go back to Mass until 2022, when a missionary family moved to Picota and launched a young adult ministry. Paolo became actively involved in that group, and through it, his faith was reignited. He began serving in outreach to the poor, assisting at Mass as an altar server, and helping organize work projects for mission trips with groups from the U.S.

In 2024, Paolo was invited to begin missionary formation with the Missioners of Christ—a Catholic organization dedicated to equipping Latin Americans for discipleship and evangelization within their own communities. He entered the two-year program in Honduras in February 2025, receiving spiritual, pastoral, and leadership training. Once he completes formation at the end of 2026, Paolo will return to Picota to take on a leadership role in the mission—living out what he has learned and helping others grow in faith, service, and missionary discipleship.
